Festival Of Sails

Clip Clop and a big Clap!

Australia Day celebrations in Geelong will include the distinctive clip-clop of the historic Carlton Clydesdales when the much-loved team of horses makes a guest appearance at the 2016 Festival of Sails.

These gentle giants will make their way along Geelong’s waterfront from midday Tuesday, January 26.

The four horses and their handlers will be joined by mascot, Cassie the Dalmatian, a valued member of the team since 2006. Dalmatians were traditionally used to protect the horses from dog attack but these days Cassie is simply the live-wire of the outfit, with a friendly disposition and an ever-wagging tail.

The Carlton Clydesdales appearance at the Shoreside Festival coincides with an important sponsorship deal signed by Royal Geelong Yacht Club and the Festival of Sails and Carlton and United Breweries (CUB).

RGYC Commodore and Festival of Sails Chairman, Chris Williams said the five plus three year agreement with Australia’s best known brewer represented the longest sponsorship deal in the history of the festival and a great result for the club.

“We are thrilled to have CUB join us at the Festival of Sails. This deal is a fantastic acknowledgement of the strength of this Victorian major event and a huge vote of confidence in its future.”
