Festival Of Sails

National Roadshow

Royal Geelong Yacht Club Sailing Manager Rod Hagebols is about to hit the road to promote Australia’s favourite regatta, the Festival of Sails.

It’s the first time the Royal Geelong Yacht Club has organised a showcase for the Festival of Sails in a bid to build on the growing number of boats that attend this iconic event.

The Festival of Sails has consistently attracted the highest calibre of sailing craft, crew, family and friends to the event which combines first class racing with a fantastic free shoreside festival.

Rod’s first visit this month will be to the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club in Newport in New South Wales.

A visit to the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia in Sydney is also on the calendar for later in the month along with several other clubs around the country.

As organisers of the Festival of Sails, the RGYC wants to outline the regatta format to give interstate boat owners an opportunity to plan ahead and map out their summer season.

Rod Hagebols, who has been with the RGYC for the past two years after a celebrated career as an Olympic sailing coach and professional sailor, says the road show will inform boat owners about innovations and changes being developed for the regatta.

“Whether you’re a competitor or race official you are always striving to do the best you can,” says Rod.

“We want to make sure our competitors are our number one priority and they have a great time at a world class event.”

The Festival of Sails has evolved over many years culminating in its’ current position as the foremost competitive keelboat regatta in Australia.

The event has consistently attracted both brilliant yachts and a public keen to soak up the essence of the event and Royal Geelong Yacht Club takes great pride in its role as host of a regatta whose reputation as a global player expands each year.
