COVID-19 Settings

Being COVID Safe is a shared responsibility and it is the aim of the RGYC Board and the Festival of Sails Organising Committee to ensure that all attendees have a fantastic time at the 2022 Festival of Sails, whilst ensuring a safe environment for all. The objective of these COVID Safe guidelines is to protect the health, safety and well-being of patrons, staff, contractors, volunteers and the wider community.
The 2022 Festival of Sails Organising Committee is actively monitoring the COVID-19 situation, and will act in accordance with the advice of the Government and the Department of Health and Human Services.
COVID-19 Declarations
Every skipper must complete the following two steps prior to taking part in the Passage Race on Saturday.

1. Sign the Skippers’ COVID-19 Safe Statement: CLICK HERE
2. Complete your Crew Declaration in TopYacht, including all attending, non-sailing persons associated with your boat, such as family or partners. CLICK HERE

The Royal Geelong Yacht Club will be running a bus from Geelong to Williamstown, Docklands, St Kilda & Brighton (as required) for crew needing to get to Melbourne for the start of the Passage Race. The bus will depart from Brougham Street, (in front of the Council Building) Geelong on Saturday 22nd January, 2022 at 5:45am sharp. Passengers can board from 5:30am.

Division flags, where applicable, and wristband packs will be delivered to your Passage Race berthing location prior to Saturday 22nd January 2022.

RGYC members are asked to collect their division flag and wristband packs for their crews from the RGYC office from 4.00 pm Wednesday 19th January 2022. Members will require the flag for the Passage Race and the wristbands when they get back to Geelong. You will be advised prior to Wednesday 19th January if your class requires a divisional backstay flag.


Berthing allocations and information will be sent to you on Thursday 20th January 2022 to the email address on your TopYacht entry.

Please note that your berthing may be on a public access marina. We remind FOS participants to keep their marina area tidy and secure your valuables.

Access to Regatta Village and the RGYC precinct will be restricted to Festival of Sails participants, staff, volunteers, stakeholders, and RGYC members. RGYC members will be entitled to one pass plus one guest pass per member.
This wristband will last you for the entire event, so do not remove it after your first visit to Regatta Village.

Access for family and associates

Each skipper should ensure all people associated with their entry, including attending family members and non-sailors, are included on their crew declarations. Only people on the Crew Declarations will be given access to Regatta Village.

Regatta Village Entry Points
The main entrance to Regatta Village will be along Stony Pier Lane, on the western side of the RGYC clubhouse.
Secondary entrance is available via the eastern side of the RGYC precinct, alongside Eastern Beach.


Food will be available for breakfast, lunch and dinner at the Regatta Village with a range of food vendors and our on site café, The Yot.

The Yot is offering pre-packaged sailors lunches, available daily. Pre-orders must be made by 12.00 pm the day prior. CLICK HERE for the order form.

The Slab and Ice Bar will be open from 9.00 am daily with a range of full strength, mid-strength and zero alcohol beer available inside Regatta Village for takeaway only. These will be as full slabs only.

Daily live entertainment will be provided at both Regatta Village and throughout the Geelong CBD, all within a short walk of the club as part of Gigs by Festival of Sails.

In collaboration with the City of Greater Geelong, a fireworks display will be held on Saturday 22nd January at 9.30 pm. This will be viewable from Regatta Village, RGYC and at most vantage points around the Geelong waterfront.


Skippers’ packs will provide entrants with useful information for their Festival of Sails experience, as well as swag from our supporters at Musto, your Festival of Sails battle flag, and more.

For visiting sailors, your skippers pack will be split into two parts.

Your pre-race pack will be sent to your host club which you have nominated prior to the start of the 179th Melbourne to Geelong Passage Race. This will include your division flags and Regatta Village wristbands.

Your arrival pack will be available for collection at the Regatta Office, in Regatta Village, once you land in Geelong.

RGYC Members are invited to collect their skippers packs from the RGYC Office from 4.00 pm Wednesday 19th January, 2022.


The traditional Skippers Breakfast will be hosted on Sunday 23rd January at RGYC.

Skippers have been sent their invite and must RSVP prior to 20th January to confirm their attendance.

A light breakfast will be provided as well as a Q&A with the Sydney to Hobart winning crew from ‘Solera’, and Lisa Darmanin, two time Olympian in the Nacra 17 class and Rio 2016 silver medalist.

Festival of Sails – 6.00 pm on the Lawn Stage in Regatta Village


All participants are reminded they must wear their wristbands, scan in via the QR Codes and present their proof of double vaccination or medical exemption at all times of entry to Regatta Village.


A first aid station will be available during Regatta Village open hours, located on the ground floor of the RGYC Off The Beach club house.


Barwon Water will be providing a water refill station, located at the western side of the Regatta Bar, adjacent to the slipway. We encourage all visitors to FOS 2022 to bring reusable water bottles to reduce their consumption of single use plastic.


The long range forecast looks great, with warm weather and sunshine. We remind everyone to be sun smart; wear sunscreen, a hat, long sleeve shirts and sunglasses to protect yourself. Sunscreen is available at all entry points should you need a top up.


Access to Wangim Walk will be restricted to skippers and crew of vessels moored on Wangim Walk only from 5.00pm to 6.00am each day. You must be wearing your wristband to gain entry. Wangim Walk is open to all at all other times.
