Avalon Airport is celebrating the recent expansion of its services by announcing its sponsorship of the Australia Day Fireworks, one of the most popular highlights of the now expanded Festival of Sails.
A much loved crowd favourite, the Australia Day waterfront fireworks display will be the culmination of a long list of entertainment on offer across the entire week, which will extend the Festival of Sails celebrations right through to Australia Day.
Snapping up the opportunity to be the presenting sponsor of the fireworks display, Avalon Airport CEO Justin Giddings said his organisation was proud and excited to partner with the event.
“We’re so pleased to be sponsoring the Festival of Sails Fireworks in such a massive week for Geelong and the surrounding region,” said Mr Giddings.
“There are Festival of Sails activities right up to the fireworks going off and then the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race begins the very next day! We’re thrilled to be providing something that everyone in the community can enjoy. It’s a fantastic time of year in this summer city and we can’t wait.”
The 2017 Festival of Sails, presented by Rex Gorell Land Rover, will be held from Saturday, January 21 to Tuesday, January 24, with additional activities and racing held through to Australia Day as an extension of the event.
“We’re delighted to welcome Avalon Airport on board as a first time sponsor,” said Festival of Sails Chairman and Royal Geelong Yacht Club Vice Commodore, Peter Alexander.
“With Avalon being the gateway to Geelong, we think this partnership is a perfect fit! Avalon’s expanded services now include flights to and from Gold Coast, Sydney, Adelaide and Hobart, making it easy for competitors, crew and visitors alike to the Festival.”
“For the 2017 event, the fireworks will be held on the evening of Australia Day, effectively the end of the extended Festival and we think it’s the perfect way to conclude the festivities,” said Mr Alexander. “It’s sure to be a showstopper!”
The Avalon Airport Australia Day Fireworks Spectacular will kick off at 9:15pm on Australia Day, Thursday, January 26.
