Festival Of Sails

Passage race start …

This coming Saturday morning the Melbourne to Geelong passage race, the keystone event of the annual Festival of Sails presented by Rex Gorell Land Rover, will start off Williamstown at the top of Port Phillip.

A fleet of 225 boats will charge off a long line for the largest single start of a yacht race in the southern hemisphere. The five minute warning signal will be fired by Councillor Ron Nelson, Chairman of Geelong Major Events, City of Greater Geelong, and the start signal by Minister Lisa Neville, Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Water.

Saturday’s forecast is for light southerly winds building to 15 knots, ideal conditions for the fleet making its way to the Royal Geelong Yacht Club, host of the annual Festival of Sails now in its 173rd year!
